Secret Jeff Rowley Invite to Red Bull Jaws Invitational?

Red Bull is known for their high wire sports and could they be up to something huge? Hawaii is known for great big waves and no better place to hold a big wave competition to be held then for a possible secret comp to take place?  Could it be Jaws on the island of Maui? Rumours of a secret event have been circling for weeks and it was only recently that Rowley received his official invitation in Red Bull style. Other official invitees include John John Florence, Greg Long, Shane Dorian and Kala Alexander, however the full list of invitees has not been revealed. From what we know, Red Bull will only be hosting one big wave paddle contest in Hawaii and it will be taking place on the infamous Jaws break.

Here is what Rowley had to say about the secret contest :

“It’s like I’ve been hand-picked as an astronaut for a mission to another planet and nobody’s sure what’s going to happen, but the whole world is going to be watching. Surfing Jaws is everything to me, and to be recognized as one of the surfers taking big wave surfing to the next level is incredible. Jaws is the biggest, heaviest and most challenging wave in the world to surf – it’s the next frontier, there’s never been an event like this. I’ve never felt more ready and nothing has ever felt more right for me, I can’t wait.”

Invitees are told very little about this big wave contest, but the competition is not for the weak of heart, mind, body or soul, as there will not be any jet ski assist to tow the surfers in. The prize purse for the event is still unknown but the price of being a winner of such an event is priceless.

This event will no doubt, going to be off the hook and will showcase some of the most insane surfing we are going to see all year.  Watch the video below of Jeff Rowley discuss his invite:
